Iguanas Soccer founded in 1996 by a coach that wanted to start a traveling team for his son. That team was a u12 team that was mostly u10 players. A young 19 year old Coach Wraine volunteered to help. That was the start of Coach Wraine's coaching career. That team had some early growing pains as they adjusted to a different level of soccer but enjoyed a lot of success. Those players went on to become a large part of Pittsburg High School's first soccer team to have a winning season (coached by Coach Wraine).
The original Iguanas team was ended as both coaches moved out of town and the older players started getting into high school. In 2014 after a number of years coaching at Pittsburg High School and coaching the Pittsburg Lightning u10 and u12 soccer teams with Coach Chris Perkins, Coach Wraine started a new group of Iguanas with a U14 team that also had great success before those players moved on to high school.
Fast forward to 2022 and Coach Wraine was approached by Jason Marietta owner of World Class Sports to start coaching some Saturday morning youth soccer sessions. Those turned out to be a big hit and then another traveling youth soccer team in Pittsburg folded and Jason asked if it would be a good time to start a traveling team. Coach Wraine said yes on the condition that the team be called the Iguanas Soccer Club. Jason agreed and at the beginning of 2023 Iguanas Soccer Club was revived.
It started with a u10 team and a u15 team. The u10 team took 3rd in their inaugural season. Then the team experienced huge growth to the point where more coaches were needed. Coach Chris Perkins and Coach Jeremy came on board. In our largest season Iguanas Soccer had 5 teams (one u8 team, two u10 teams, and 2 u12 teams) and over 80 players. As we have grown, we have lost Coach Perkins who moved, but have had the great fortune of adding Coach Emilio, and Coach Juan who have been fantastic, and with the continued support of Jason Marietta and World Class Sports, have helped build Iguanas to the great club that it is as we continue to try to grow the club and youth soccer in the Pittsburg area.
